Scar of Kakita
The Scar of Kakita is a bridge between the mortal realm of Ningen-do and the hellish plane of Jigoku. Located just outside the Kakita Dueling Academy, the Scar was created when an individual of the Kakita Daimyo’s family was brainwashed into performing a ritual which inflicted a massive wound on the reality between the two realms that had already been weakened through natural causes.
Upon its creation, a massive army of oni invaded Crane lands, and were only repelled thanks to the fortuitous circumstances of a nearby Lion army and the brave acts of a travelling band of samurai who were present for the initial creation of the Scar. The battle became known as the Battle of Jade Fire.
After the battle, representatives from each Clan came to survey the Scar. Engineers from the Kaiu family began construction upon a massive fortress to surround and keep watch over the Scar, much like the Great Carpenter Wall watched the Shadowlands to the south. The Emperor himself, however, decided that on single Clan should bear the responsibility for watching the Scar and, much to the Crane Clan’s objections, the fort was designed to hold representatives of each Clan. The fortress eventually became known as the Bastion of Eight Swords. The fort has eight points, with each point containing a tower that hosts one of the Clans. Most notable of these towers is the Tower Ryuu, which was named after the honorable Togashi Ryuu, who was the only Dragon to be present at the Battle of Jade Fire. Ryuu gave his life defending a city far from his home, and his sacrifice is to be remembered eternally in Tower Ryuu.
