Bastion of Eight Swords
The Bastion of Eight Swords is a fortress designed to contain the new threat of the Scar of Kakita. The fortress was designed by the Kaiu engineers who designed the famous Great Carpenter Wall of the south, and is designed for many of the same purposes.
The fortress itself is designed in an octagon shape, with towers at each of its points. Each tower is manned by one of the Great Clans, who share the heavy burden of guarding such a grave threat to the Empire.
The Dragon Tower holds special significance, as it was named after the honorable Togashi Ryuu, who was the sole Dragon present at the Battle of Jade Fire and sacrificed himself to defend the Empire against such a terrible unseen threat to the Empire. The Tower Ryuu frequently receives pilgrims from across the Empire, who come to see the vast archives of knowledge that were quickly accumulated after the battle. Per tradition, most pilgrims bring with them a contribution for the archives, containing anything from a small scrap of knowledge about rice farming to mystical shugenja scrolls. Within the archives, an ever-burning flame is kept, which represents the courage and honor Ryuu displayed in the pursuit of truth and knowledge. Behind the flames stands a gift from the Crane Clan to the Dragons: a bronze statue of the warrior-monk Ryuu, engulfing a treacherous Genso no Oni with his flame-breath in the midst of battle.
